WESTERN CANADA CHRONICLES

Western Canada Chronicles is centrally located within the heart of the beautiful Okanagan Valley in southern British Columbia.

I am a BC historical chronicler and  a genealogical researcher. It has taken me many years to gain the acquired knowledge and skills to become an expert in these fields.  I have spent hours in searching the archives, contacting registrars, going over maps, visiting museums, to reading biographies, and being lucky enough to talk to the old timers that made BC history what it is today.  My personal travels have included visiting these places directly,  cemetery wanderings, plus doing many genealogical histories for other people.

This knowledge coupled along with my very own family experiences - encompasses historical information found within the boundaries of the Okanagan Valley and the Kootenay Valley regions.  Today, we are still able to see and visit places of our heritage as they have been preserved by caring folk.  Take a step back in time letting your  mind wander through the many stately brick or wood homes with the large verandas that still overlook the valley bottom. Close your eyes for a few
moments and listen to the sounds of the miners, as they once echoed in the now derelict mines - chipping away rock in their quest for elusive gold and galena. Walk down old main streets and let the whispering voices of the resident ghosts of citizens past take over  your thoughts.  These are our keys that are needed for reopening the doors of history.  As a sideline, my research has taken me back in time to the  Cariboo Gold Rush era of the 1850s right up until the early 1900s in BC.  This was a busy century of gold panning, miners and saloon girls, lost lives and lost dreams, towns that were built but then deserted in the blink of an eye.  Barkerville, BC -  became the place to be with everyone coming from far and away to find the 'Mother Lode.'  Gold was found in many areas of BC, including the southern part of the province.  The Arrow Lake and Okanagan Lake areas boomed with small towns being started that catered to agriculture, mining, logging, and the shipping of goods down the lakes by sternwheeler or tugs.  Today, the SS. Sicamous can be seen permanently docked on the shore of Lake Okanagan in the City of Penticton as a tourist attraction.

I love to 'dig' up any old information that concerns BC, and to trace back family trees.  If you have need for some other kind of research I would be more than happy to discuss it with you.  My expertise does lie in  genealogy, the names of original settlers,  the life and times of many old towns in the two valley areas.  If  your family roots go back to England, Scotland, Ireland or the USA, then there is probably information on your relatives lurking in some archive that can we can dust off for you.

Please take a  look at my Services page.  Should you have further questions or requests I would be happy to answer your enquiries.   I am a proud member of the Association of Professional Genealogists and adhere to their code of ethics.
